Info
Description:

This testing kit consists of 6 bottles: test acid for silver, 8 kt., 14 kt., 18 kt., 21.6 kt., 1 kontrastol cleaning fluid and 1 touch stone for gold testing.

Testing with touch stone:

  1. Gently wipe the test stone with contrastol.
  2. File the surface of the item thoroughly before testing to ensure accurate results, especially if it may be gold-plated, silver-plated, or rhodium-plated.
  3. Draw a strong line, approx. 3–4 cm long, on the test stone using the item, so there is enough space for multiple acid tests.
  4. If you have a suspicion about the item’s fineness, you can start with the corresponding test acid.
  5. Otherwise, begin at one end of the line by applying a drop of 8 kt. acid.
  6. If the mark starts to dissolve within 1–2 minutes, the fine gold content is below 8 kt. If the mark remains unchanged, the content is 8 kt. or higher.
  7. If unchanged, apply a drop of 14 kt. acid next to the first.
  8. If the mark dissolves after approx. 30 seconds, the gold content is below 14 kt.
  9. If unchanged, apply a drop of 18 kt. acid next to the previous mark.
  10. If it dissolves after approx. 30 seconds, the gold content is below 18 kt.
  11. Continue with higher karat acid tests as needed.
  12. The test stone should be thoroughly cleaned after use with contrastol.

Direct testing on the item:

  1. File the surface of the item thoroughly before testing, especially to ensure accurate results in case of gold plating, silver plating, or rhodium plating.
  2. Then apply a drop of test acid to the marked area.
  3. If you have a suspicion about the item’s fineness, it’s a good idea to start with the corresponding acid.
  4. If the acid you apply does not react – for example, by changing color – the item holds at least that level of fineness. You can then test a new spot on the item using an acid for a higher fineness.
  5. If the acid dissolves or changes color, the gold content is lower, and you should test a new spot with an acid for a lower fineness.
